A Connection to the past

Rows of rising Mountains maintain a respectful distance, more watchful audience than menacing guards, they behold the whispering turquoise stream as it meanders through the ancient Ghats. The mighty Ganges, feared and revered, worshipped and appeased, she flows as it suits her roaringly or swiftly, with gentleness of a mother or with force of the divine. And at its bank gather its devotees , believers of its awesome power its purity, compassion and gentleness. They congregate in search of absolution and rejuvenation, theirs’ is an unshaken belief that Mother Ganges will embrace them in its purity and relieve them of their earthly burdens. The sun gentles over the horizon- from an incandescent yellow to a muted red and the night starts gaining strength. As the Pujaris light the Diyas and begin the ritual, the atmosphere reverberates with their incantation, words thousands of years old envelop, embrace-overwhelm, an aura is woven; it isolates even as it connects, anything else ceases to exist.

Most of all there is a sense of unbroken continuity, of timelessness. The knowledge of a continuous past regardless of date, century or even millennium creates a sense of co-existence with our ancestors, a feeling of connectedness with our creator and an awareness of oneness with the universe.
